San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick doesn’t
show respect for our national anthem or America. He
gets an angry response from most of us. He is not the
first and certainly won’t be the last to do it.
His mistake is believing that racial discrimination is
caused by the country or government instead of
individual people. Our mistake is deciding that he
does not have the right to silently protest during the
Most of us love our country warts and all. Now in
his twenties he seems like one of the warts. He may
change later. Almost all of us do. If not he still has
the right to think independently.
We can not legislate respect. It is a personal decision
and will never be universal. Making it illegal to
disrespect our country won’t work.
